Ceramic tables by Bruno Fattorini: The minimalist look November 26
Ceramic has industrial and decorative functions, and many times it’s a combination of both. Let’s take hospitality industry tables, for example: contract bar tables, restaurant tables, hotel lounge tables, and the like. Ceramic finishes add a touch of elegance to such tables. And this was what struck me when I saw the Keramik Table Collection, which was designed by Bruno Fattorini.
I should say though that the tables in this collection aren’t actually made from ceramic. The frames and legs are of aluminium are finished in matte lacquer in light grey, anthracite grey, or white. No, it’s only the table top (which is made of glass) that has a ceramic finish. The ceramic finish is 3mm thick, and is available in white, light and medium grey, and anthracite grey.
The tables not only have an aesthetically pleasing appearance that most minimalist designs typically do; they are unusually strong and durable as well, thanks to the way the ceramic is produced and treated. The table’s surface hardness is comparable to that of topaz, yet it also has a high bending strength. There’s no need to worry about it being easily damaged if it’s used as part of a contemporary reception furniture set or in other settings where people congregate a lot since it is resistant to stains and water. Cleanup isn’t troublesome too because it can withstand the rigors of detergent and acids. Moreover, it is fire-resistant; it doesn’t warp when exposed to heat from an open flame, nor does it release toxic gases.
The Bruno Fattorini Keramik Table Collection is manufactured by MDF Italia, where Fattorini is president and designer. He has received praise for the aesthetic purity of his designs, which include beds, sofas, cabinets, and bookshelves. Simplicity isn’t necessarily equivalent to boring, and the tables in this set are proof of that.
