Restaurant decorating tips: Setting the ambiance for New Year’s celebrations

indoor-table-fireworks.jpgThere are only a few more days left before we say bye-bye to 2007 and hello to 2008. And some of the things that are commonly seen and experienced while ushering in the New Year are food – lots of it – and fireworks. Now, if you own a restaurant, there are a number of ways you can jazz up your establishment even more to help your customers celebrate the event.

For one thing, bright colors are the way to go. Since it’s still part of the holiday season, it’s still okay to use the traditional reds and greens, but you can also add touches of shiny golds and silvers since they give off such a celebratory air. Upholster your contract reception seating in colorful and luxurious fabrics. If you own an Oriental-themed restaurant, you can also adorn areas with objects associated with good luck, like coins (fake ones, of course) and figures of animals such as frogs, which are believed to be harbingers of prosperity.

The dining rooms themselves, whether indoors or outdoors, can be decorated for New Year’s in various ways. You can tie balloons onto bistro area furniture for a festive party look. Party favors won’t be out of place at all during this time. Set some noisemakers like horns at each table setting, very handy for guests to use when the magic hour strikes. Confetti and poppers would do just as well.

There are also many decorative options when it comes to a table’s centerpiece. Candles of various shapes and sizes are always a safe bet, as are seasonal flowers. You can also arrange different kinds of fruit that are round or oval in shape, like oranges and grapes, since these are considered good luck charms in some Asian cultures. But for a centerpiece that really screams “Happy New Year!” consider hiring a specialist to install pyrotechnic displays like fountains, that will go off at midnight. Now that’s something that your guests will truly enjoy.
